While the Potthouse is one of Belfast’s most exciting new venues, it already holds more mystique than some of the cities oldest and most reputable establishments. The Potthouse is steeped in history, being located on the site of Belfast’s first pottery, which lends its name to the new bar. The original Potthouse opened in 1697 and was in operation until 1725.
A recent excavation on the site of the original Potthouse yielded archaeologists with the most important find of 17th Century artefacts ever found in Belfast.
The excavation of what was once a medieval village and plantation town yielded more than 20,000 artefacts and the foundations of homes and businesses dating back to the 1600s were uncovered. more>> |
